Case 20 Peace Keeping
Setting: United Nations Forces; Your Position: Brigade Commander
You are a brigade commander in charge of three battalions. Your assignment has been to maintain a very "shaky" peace between two ethnic groups that have recently ended a civil war. The original plan had called for the withdrawal of all forces several months ago, but continued instability in the region necessitated an indefinite extension of that date. Secretly you had entertained the idea that all of the troops would be replaced prior to Christmas, permitting their return in time for the holiday period.
To your dismay, you have just learned that one of the three battalions will need to stay for an additional month to work with the replacement troops in the destruction of mines left by both sides. You have confidence in all three of your battalion commanders and know that any of them could meet the demands of this assignment. Furthermore, you believe that they consider this decision to be yours to make.
